Development of Quebec High School Educational Project The educational project of Quebec High School is to guide and enrich the life of this school. Throughout the past ten years, various formal initiatives were undertaken to foster the learning environment of Quebec High School. The goals of the updated Q.H.S. Mission Statement and Educational Project are to build on the previous successful steps. It is important to acknowledge the work of many partners who have contributed to the past and present projects. The Mission Statement is also a testament to the extent of involvement on the part of all the Q.H.S. partners in the development of the school's goals and objectives. The 1989 Q.H.S. Orientation Committee initiated the objectives, which were also included in the historical overview. As the Ministry of Education proceeded to implement linguistic school boards, an active group of parents, students and staff decided to develop ways to move toward the new Governing Board format. They established a focus group that was called "Dialogue '95". It provided biweekly discussion sessions on topics such as the strengths and weaknesses of Q.H.S. and the kind of school we want to have. These dialogues continued throughout the year and a list of priorities was established as outlined in the historical overview. While the school worked on the priority list, the staff attended a variety of professional development workshops from 1995 to the present, focusing on managing change in the classroom. Q.H.S. joined the Quebec School Improvement Network in 1998-99 and invited an educational consultant. Once again the partners were involved in developing a vision, a set of beliefs and goals, for the school. Representatives from the staff, the Student Council, the Governing Board and the Parent participation Committee were engaged in the process. We welcome you to read more about the educational project in the student and parent handbook because it includes our accomplishments, student profile, student record of achievements and our school vision: "Who we are, what we believe in and what we do". The school Success Plan defined in September 2000 which focuses on the student as learner, IT, and Professional Development is a continuing attempt to meet the demands of education in Quebec. The intent is for Q.H.S. to have an educational project that is a "work-in-progress" - i.e. one that can be adapted and changed over time. |
